Hidden Figures

Hidden Figures
It’s the early days of NASA where the United States is in a race against Russia to be the first to get a man in space. During these days, “human computers” were used to calculate the complex equations of the space program. Three women, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, would become the pioneers of the NASA program, overcoming race and gender barriers, to help make the dream of putting a man into orbit and beyond a reality. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Hidden Figures”.

· After Katherine meets Al Harrison, he’s talking to the group about having their work checked. Al comments, “Let’s have an ‘Amen’,” in the overhead view, and Katherine can be seen reaching for the paper on top of the box with her right hand. It cuts to a wider view, and her hand is down. Katherine’s left hand is on the box and her right hand is near the top, holding the papers in the next closer view.

· Katherine is tucking her younger girls into bed at night. One of the girls mentions, “He’s with the angels.” The close-up view shows the girls’ hands are by their sides. It cuts to a side view and their hands are crossed over them. Their hands are down again in the next close-up view.

· Katherine, Mary and Dorothy are in the lunchroom. The walk up to the table and Dorothy puts her drink and lunch bag down. Mary and Katherine put their glasses on the table. The scene cuts to a different view and Katherine and Mary put their glasses on the table again.

· Al and the others are in the conference room talking about calculating the “go-no go”. There are chalk and a pencil on the table, next to Al. It cuts to a closer view of Al and the chalk and pencils are gone. The chalk and pencil are back just before he gives Katherine a piece of chalk and tells her to have a go at it.

· John Glenn’s successfully splashes down. Near the end, Katherine is talking to Al. He shakes her hand and tells her, “Nice work”. Her pearls fall on the outside of her dress. Al then asks Katherine if she thinks they can get to the moon. She answers, “We’re already there,” and the pearls are tucked under her dress.
